Mr. Pio is the founder and Executive Director of the Salinas Valley Hypnosis Institute as well as the creator of The Self-Hypnosis Course™ and the three Mini-Courses. He authored and recorded all lectures and hypnosis sessions.

THE BEGINNING

A professional stage hypnotist friend hypnotized Mr. Pio in 1964. He was given a post-hypnotic suggestion that had to do with playing his trumpet with ease in the higher ranges. The suggestion worked for about ten minutes of playing and then the miracle was gone. The experience was life changing, so naturally he had to find out more about hypnosis. He was hypnotized several more times and eventually became her assistant in medical demonstrations of hypnoanethesia, pain and bleeding control.

HYPNOSIS POWER

As late as the 1960’s, the prevailing opinion was that the power of hypnosis was with the hypnotist and there was no self-hypnosis. After a year or two of being the subject of hypnosis and trying all kinds of hypnotic suggestion and posthypnotic suggestion, Mr. Pio began to sense that the hypnosis power was within him and had little to do with the hypnotist. So they began to experiment with the process of self-hypnosis. Soon he was doing everything on his own that he and his friend had been doing as a pair.

CLASSES

This led to several of Mr. Pio’s friends asking to be taught what he had learned. He started with a few friends one class a week and within a couple of years had classes most nights of the week. In 1970 he sold his business and began teaching self-hypnosis classes full time. For the next seventeen years, he taught over 25,000 students in either live or by tape including live and closed circuit TV classes to over 700 men in Soledad State Prison, located in California.
